Kansainvälisesti tärkeät lintualueet (Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, IBA) on BirdLife Internationalin maailmanlaajuinen hanke tärkeiden lintukohteiden tunnistamiseksi ja suojelemiseksi. Maailmasta on löydetty noin 10 000 kansainvälisesti tärkeää lintualuetta, jotka ovat tärkeitä myös muulle luonnon monimuotoisuudelle. Alueista 100 sijaitsee Suomessa. IBA-alueet muodostavat maailmanlaajuisen tärkeiden lintualueiden verkoston, joka tarjoaa lajeille turvan niiden pesimä-, muutto- ja talvehtimisaikana.
In the "Important bird areas in Finland" -project in early 2000's overall 411 nationally important bird areas were identified. Project was carried out in co-operation with Finnish governmental authorities and BirdLife Finland association, including its member associations. FINIBA-areas are nationally important nesting or flocking areas for species that are endangered, supervised or have an international special status. Most of the areas are located in Lapland, Northern Ostrobothnia and Northern Karelia.
